On the occasion of 88th birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the department of aeronautical engineering of KCT, Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research & Innovation (KC.IRI) and the institution of Engineers (IEI) jointly organized the fifth edition of “ KCT Aircraft Design contest 2019 “ on 15th October. The contest aimed at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's “Vision 2020 for passenger aircraft” which focused on fulfilling the need for Indian civil aviation requirements by indigenous design. KCTADC 2019 was conducted in order to enlighten the youth and give them a platform to dream the impossible. Students from various colleges of Tamil Nadu participated in the contest and put forth their ideas. The design prepared by the participants was evaluated by a panel of eminent experts which included Mr. R.V Ramkumar, Scientist, DRDO, Bangalore and Mr. Thaariq Rafiq, Technical Manager HCL, Bangalore. The Principal of Kumaraguru College of Technology Dr. J Srinivasan, in his welcome address, mentioned the need for new and innovative ideas in the field of Aerospace and the various technologies in existence. Dr. P.R Natarajan, chairman of IE(I), Coimbatore Local Centre, addressed the students to be responsible engineers and to step out of their comfort zones in order to excel and make a significant change in society. The faculty coordinator of KCTADC 2019 Dr. Premkumar PS, made the gathering take the “10 point oath for Students” by Dr. Kalam and then presented the vote of thanks. Team Prandtlians from Rajalakshmi College of Technology, Chennai secured the first position for their proposition on Midsize Business jet, followed by Team BIT AERO from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam for their 70 Seater Regional Transport Aircraft. The prize winners were awarded cash prize and mementos sponsored by Jetwing's Technologies, Bangalore. The event successfully ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr.Vasanthakumar.S, final year student of KCT and followed by the National Anthem.
